He continues to shine bright as a prominent member of the TN Cricket Team as well as in Indian Premier League. This year, he will be playing for the much-admired IPL team, Bengaluru Royal Challengers. Dinesh shares his take on sports culture in India and his association with Tavya Sports Leap.
India as a sporting nation
From the time I started playing cricket, the dynamics of sports in India has changed. From only cricket we have moved on to enjoy, participate and compete in multiple sports. Over the last decade or so we have also become a sports playing country from a sports watching country. Initiatives like ‘Khelo India’ and ‘Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ)’ have helped greatly. India has more heroes to look up to in many disciplines. On the whole, the sport scene in the country is looking good and I am sure it will only move upward from here.
Advice for aspiring cricketers
Two things every aspirant should understand; there is no shortcut to success and it’s practically not possible for every kid to represent his or her state and country. The advantage with cricket is that there is financial security at each level and numerous career options once you are done playing. To every youngster out there, play the game for the right reasons. Try and enjoy the sport as much as you can. Please bear in mind, cricket is a tough sport and be ready for the hard yards.
Association with Sports Leap
I am excited about my association with Tavya Sports Leap Cricket Academy. My chance to give something back to the game. My role with Tavya Sports Leap will not be a full time coach but I will mentor the program and keep talking to the boys and girls on finer aspects like preparation, mental side of the game, tactics and game awareness. There are enough and more coaches to guide young players these days, and I am hopeful of adding value with my inputs.
