Grassroots in football has been defined by Asian Football Confederation as “All football that is played at non-professional and non-elite level”
Although they are defined differently, the sport demands a lot from a player. It does not matter if you are at the grassroots level or elite level, your investment is the same only varying in intensity accordingly to these levels.

If you are starting to get into any sport, you will first have to learn the demands of the sport, for example, tennis requires good strength and stability of the wrists, and basketball needs you to be agile with precise hand-eye coordination, etc.

Football is no different, getting into the sport requires you to have a basic understanding of what it demands from you from the following 4 key aspects

  • Physical
  • Technical
  • Mental
  • Social

Physical demands:
Football requires us to be able to move quickly and have powerful legs to be able to run a lot and kick the ball strongly.
You must train yourself to be able to run for long durations as a match might last for 90 whole minutes.

Technical demands:
You must be able to dribble, control, and pass the ball with good precision as it is a sport that requires your team to keep possession of the ball in order to score goals

Mental and social demands:
Since you are getting into the sport it is highly important that you feel safe, enjoy, and feel rewarded after playing a game of football. You must also make friends with everyone and make sure they enjoy playing with you.

These demands of the sport are the same from the grassroots all the way up to the professional level, learning the basics and understanding them early on will help any player develop the right skills to be able to make it to the professional level in the future
