One of the more commonly heard terms among young parents is ‘motor skills development’. Motor development is vital to the physical growth and strengthening of a child’s muscles and bones development. It gives them the ability to move and react to his surrounding better. The basic motor skills are hand-eye coordination, balance and coordination, core muscle development, patterning and back to front activities.
While motor development involves physical activity, your child’s brain is a big part of it. It takes the brain and the body’s muscle to allow these skills to develop, connect and build with all other parts of your child’s development including their ability to learn a language, and adapt socially.
Sports can play a huge part in developing a child’s motor skills. A recent study by University of Jyväskylä, young children showed that children’s motor skills benefitted if a child participated in organized sports. Reflexes and responses in children can evolve into rudimentary motor skills, which then advance to essential motor abilities before becoming sports strengths.
