R. Balasubramanian, CEO of Tavya Sports Leap Consulting Pvt Ltd, or Bala, as his team calls him, is a former cricketer who represented Tamil Nadu and South Zone in all Junior BCCI tournaments. Bala, an alumni of Loyola College, started his entrepreneurial journey in 2000. In 2009, he was part of the Indian Cricket League promoted by Essel Sports. He took up sports management in 2010 with Edu Sports (now Sportz Village). During his decade long stint with Edu Sports, Bala built the largest sports education business by making sports and physical literacy integral part of in over 250+ schools in Tamil Nadu, thus benefiting more than 100000+ children. During the pandemic he was instrumental in building India’s first on line physical literacy platform for children called Active Club.
In 2018, Bala co-founded Sports Leap with a vision to transform sports in India. Within a short span of four years, Sports Leap has transformed the sporting experience for more than 20000 children in ten schools across three cities. He is a sports advisor to many prestigious schools including DAV, Santhanam Vidyalaya and AM Jain College. He is also part of various education companies advocating 21st Century skills as principal consultant.
One of the key focus areas of the company has been providing educational institutes with premium sports infrastructure. ‘Sports Infrastructure plays a vital role in creating a positive sports culture. Bala shares a parting advice for parents who wish to help their children achieve sporting excellence, ‘Parents should encourage children to participate in sports regularly. While every child may not become a Sachin Tendulkar or Roger Federer or Messi, but sports teaches children more than just physical skills. They learn important values like discipline, teamwork, hard work and leadership skills, which will help them to succeed in life, while ensuring their fitness.’
